Seasonal Camps & Programs

Three programs unique to Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast are:
CAMP ARTEMIS is a week-long resident camp based on leadership development in an outdoor setting with activities that include backpacking, sleeping in tents, archery, swimming, leadership skill building and making new friends. Artemis takes place in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains and serves girls entering 5th through 12th grade.
The uniqueness of Camp Artemis is that it is planned, implemented, and directed by girls for girls. Leadership is provided by girls aged 14 to 17 that have previously participated in Camp Artemis and have applied and were accepted into ALTA (Artemis Leadership Training Adventure).
GIRL SCOUT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (GSLI) is a triennial conference designed for girls 14 years (by October 16, 2014) and older with three days of actionable leadership skills tied to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.  Girls tell us they want to make a difference in the world so the 2014 GSLI will focus on big issues which girls across the country and globe are passionate about.  Girls will get the latest information on issues they choose from experts in the field, work together in solutions, and learn techniques for innovation, advocacy, and planning.  Girls will return home ready to make a specific impact in their communities and councils as well as lead others to do the same!  The GSLI experience will provide each girl with new friends, leadership skill development, and leadership opportunities.
The 2014 GSLI will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 16 - 18, 2014.  GSCCC would like to take up to 6 young women to this conference!  Girls that are 14 years (by October 16, 2014) and older and are currently registered Girl Scout members are eligible to apply.
Applications must be received on or before May 1, 2014.  Applications must be COMPLETELY filled out and legible to be accepted.  Girls will receive an email notice that their application has been received.  It is important to include a working email address on the application.  This will be the main form of communication.  (If email or internet is not available, individual arrangements will be made between the specific girl and staff.)
Participating in the GSLI experience will include activities, meetings, and preparation in the months leading up to the conference.  Selected girls must be able to participate in the activities and meetings.  Once the girls have been selected and the locations of where the girls live are known, meeting times and places will be determined.  The meeting locations will rotate depending on the locations of the girls. Some but not all meetings and communications may be done by Skype or Webinar. If selected, girls must agree to register for the 2014-15 Girl Scout Membership year by September 2, 2014.
Current cost to attend is estimated at $1500 per girl (hotel, airfare, and meals) Girls will be responsible for %50 of the costs or approximately $750.

KALEIDOSCOPE is a Girl Scout weekend camporee for Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, and Senior and Ambassador which takes place in the Santa
Ynez Valley every two years. Troops plan and practice outdoor skills all year in preparation for the weekend. While camping, troops compete and attend workshops in everything from fire-building, lashing, and backpacking, to knot tying, orienteering, and outdoor cooking.
Planning has already begun for Kaleidoscope 2015 and the theme and date will be released in the fall of 2014.
BROWNILYMPICS is a day of sports and fun for Brownie Girl Scouts. An Olympics-style event that happens annually in the Spring, the purpose is to enhance each young girls self-confidence through a day of fun and activities. Each girl will earn a medal, because the theme is always "Every Girl Goes Home a Winner." Currently Brownilympics occur in two locations in Ventura County. The uniqueness of Brownilympics is that volunteer Dads run the events.
