Hey Girl Scouts,
Become a marine scientist for the day as you explore the fascinating world of California's beloved sea otters! This exciting two-part adventure combines hands-on field science with an unforgettable kayaking experience, giving Girl Scouts the chance to observe these incredible animals from both land and water.
Your adventure begins at a scenic shoreline viewing area, where you'll use binoculars and scientific observation techniques to watch wild sea otters, record behaviors, collect field data, and discover how citizen scientists help researchers protect these amazing marine mammals.
Then, the adventure continues as you launch into the water on a guided kayak tour through beautiful Elkhorn Slough. Paddle quietly through one of California's richest wildlife habitats while observing sea otters, harbor seals, and other coastal wildlife in their natural environment from a whole new perspective.
By the end of the day, you'll have experienced marine science firsthand, contributed to real-world conservation efforts, and gained a deeper appreciation for the incredible wildlife that calls California's coast home. Every Girl Scout will earn the Think Like a Citizen Scientist Badge along with an exclusive Sea Otter Savvy patch to commemorate this unforgettable adventure.
- All girls must have photo permission to participate.
- Adults can attend the on land portion at no charge & do not need to register - the girls will need to be transported across the street for the kayak portion of the program
- Adults wishing to kayak will need to register & pay
- Only 2 adult kayak spots are available for registration; all other adults will enjoy the view from shore during the kayaking portion.
