Completion of the Council's Outdoor Training by one of the adults in a troop is required before the troop may participate in Fire building, cookouts, tent camping at public or Girl Scout facilities, or for participation in Girl Scout events such as Service Unit camp-outs and Kaleidoscope, etc. Having more than one trained person per troop is STRONGLY recommended.
Part A: Monday, April 9th 6-9 PM
Part B: Saturday, April 14th 9 AM - 4:30 PM - Parking is $10.00 per vehicle
Outdoor Training is a two-part training.
Part A is a classroom based training where you will learn the basics of planning a girl-led camping trip. You will be put into patrols and challenged to go through the process of planning a council approved trip. You will be meal planning during part A. At the completion of Part A, you will need to gather/shop for supplies for part B.
Part B Outdoor Training is a practical application of the preparation you did during part A and will be located outdoors. You will be required to bring various camping supplies and/or food.
EVENT DETAILS: At the end of this training the participants will be able to:
· Understand the purpose of outdoor activities in Girl Scouting
· Identify the possibilities and limits in travel, cooking and overnight programs for a Girl Scout troop or group.
· Use progression guidelines in planning the appropriate activities with girl involvement.
· Show knowledge of health, safety, policies, standards, and procedures required of GSUSA and our council.
· Choose the appropriate forms for out-of-doors activities.
· Understand the Eight Basic Scout Outdoor Skills.
· Introduction to knots, Lashing, Compass
· Provide new opportunities for the girls, armed with a new set of skills!
