Adult Outdoor Training - Atascadero

Outdoor Training is a two part training.  Part A is a classroom style session.  Part B is a ‘hands-on’ training at a campsite where you will set up the campsite, cook outdoors, pack up. Must attend both session in order to be certified.

Part A: Friday, November 10, 2017 6:00 - 9:00 PM

Part B.  Saturday, November 11, 2017 9:00AM - 4:00 PM

Competition of the Council’s Outdoor Training by one of the adults in a troop is required before the troop may participate in fire building, cookouts, tent camping at public or Girl Scout facilities, or for participation in Girl Scout events such as Service Unit camp -outs and Kaleidoscope, etc.  Having more than one trained person per troop is STRONGLY recommended. 

PREREQUISITS:  Registered Adult, Background Check, GS101, Volunteer Essentials, and Stepping Out LIVE or Stepping Out Home Study Course Graded Stepping Out tests must be emailed to training@girlscoutsccc.or

​ At the end of this training the participants will be able to:

 

  • Understand the purpose of outdoor activities in Girl Scouting.
  • Identify the possibilities and limits in travel, cooking and overnight programs for a Girl Scout troop/girls.
  • Use progression guidelines in planning the appropriate activities with girl involvement.
  • Show knowledge of health, safety, policies, standards, and procedures required of GSUSA and GSCCC
  • Choose the appropriate forms for out-of-door activities.
  • Understand the Eight Basic Scout Outdoor Skills.
  • Introduction to knots, lashing, compass skills.
  • Provide new opportunities for the girls, armed with a new set of skills!
