Meet the Bird Sanctuary’s Avian Ambassadors, a vast array of birds in glorious shapes, colors, and sizes! We will explore their unique natural habitats, species behavior traits, and the personality quirks of birds.

Girls will gain an appreciation for parrots and the wonder of the avian world while building a connection to the Santa Barbara Bird Sanctuary; which can provide future service and educational opportunities.

Girls will discover different parrot species and explore their appearance, behavior, and adaptations to their environment.

Hands on Experience: Girls will learn how to create a foraging enrichment item for parrots.

Please bring the following items (if possible!):

  • Cardboard paper towel rolls (No TP!) 
  • Round Coffee Filters 
  • Tissue/Napkins 
  • Paper Muffin Cups
  • Paper towels
  • Raffia
  • Almonds (in shell or hulled)
  • Wood chopsticks or skewers
  • Plastic bottle caps

Troop leader or adult chaperone is required to have all traveling forms for each participating girl. (Annual Permission Form, Health History, Permission for Medication, Permission to Release) Forms can be downloaded from the council website here. Review specific event requirements in Safety Activity Checkpoints before taking any trip. All drivers should be registered Girl Scout Members, have  completed a volunteer application and background check, have a valid CA driver’s license and hold current vehicle insurance.
