The 55th Annual Show of the Ventura Gem & Mineral Society will feature educational displays, demonstrations of lapidary arts, kids’ activities, a silent auction, and a variety of dealers selling all kinds of specimens, gems, jewelry, and more. Girls will have an opportunity to earn a special Rock Out! fun patch by participating in this event.
Girls will have a chance to:
· Meet with geology experts
· Watch a variety of demonstrations, which could include cutting and polishing stones, beading, hand-crafted jewelry making, and more.
· See a large variety of educational displays of colorful rocks, minerals, and fossils from private collections throughout Southern California.
· Participate in a “scavenger hunt” type activity, which will help the girls to earn their fun patch!
Admission to this event is FREE; however there is a small fee for the patch and program (to be paid in advance during registration—no walk-up registration will be available). Parking at the Ventura County Fairgrounds is $5.00 per vehicle. Dress in layers and wear closed toe shoes.
You may sign up for either day and arrive anytime during the hours of operation to participate!
Tag-a-longs & Family Members are welcome to attend!
Optional: As there will be a variety of vendors who will be selling beads, jewelry, specimens, and more onsite, girls may want to bring a small amount of spending money to this event.
Troop leader or adult chaperone is required to have all traveling forms for each participating girl. (Annual Permission Form, Health History, Permission for Medication, Permission to Release) Forms can be downloaded from the council website here. Review specific event requirements in Safety Activity Checkpoints before taking any trip. All drivers should be registered Girl Scout Members, have completed a volunteer application and background check, have a valid CA driver’s license and hold current vehicle insurance.
