Outdoor Training is a two part training.  Part A is a planning class.  Part B is a ‘hands-on’ training at a campsite where you will set up the campsite, cook outdoors, and pack up. Must attend both sessions in order to be certified.

Wednesday, October 18, 2017 6:00pm—9:00pm (Part A)

Sunday, October 22, 2017 9:00am—4:00pm (Part B)

Completion of the Council's Outdoor Training by one of the adults in a troop is required before the troop may participate in fire building, cookouts, tent camping at public or Girl Scout facilities, or for participation in Girl Scout events such as Service Unit camp-outs and Kaleidoscope, etc. Having more than one trained person per troop is STRONGLY recommended.

PREREQUISITE: Stepping Out must be received by Marsha Hill by October 11th. Email thehills@sbceo.org for grading. If you have previously completed Stepping Out or if your SU received and graded your test, you will need to confirm this with me. Please e-mail me if this is the case.

At the end of this training the participants will be able to:

-Understand the purpose of outdoor activities in Girl Scouting

-Identify the possibilities and limits in travel, cooking and overnight programs for a Girl Scout troop or group.

-Use progression guidelines in planning the appropriate activities with girl involvement.

-Show knowledge of health, safety, policies, standards, and procedures required of GSUSA and our council.

-Choose the appropriate forms for out-of-doors activities.

-Understand the Eight Basic Scout Outdoor Skills.

-Provide new opportunities for the girls, armed with a new set of skills!
