Of Giants and Grizzlies is an award winning children’s book by author Mary Weyand. Come engage with Mary while she delights the audience with an interactive program based on Of Giants and Grizzlies and accompanying crafts!

We are very fortunate to have one of the world’s largest species and one of our most impressive national parks within a day’s ride! Would you like to learn more about what is virtually in our own backyard? Girls will have the opportunity to learn all about the amazing Giant Sequoias, dealing with Black Bears and California Grizzly Bear, and other native animals that inhabit the incredible Sequoia National Park.

Understand the true size of a Giant Sequoia and why they are called living fossils!
Just how important is the woodpecker?
Each girl will take home a copy of Of Giants and Grizzles!
Make a native craft and earn a program patch!

Please wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting “a little” dirty. We will be indoors for the majority of the program, but there is a brief period when girls will venture out to collect their craft supplies. Please dress appropriately!

Troop leader or adult chaperone is required to have all traveling forms for each participating girl. (Annual Permission Form, Health History, Permission for Medication, Permission to Release) Forms can be downloaded from the council website. Review specific event requirements in Safety Activity Checkpoints before taking any trip. All drivers should be registered Girl Scout Members, have completed a volunteer application and background check, have a valid CA driver’s license and hold current vehicle insurance.
