What’s that at the end of your line? A humongous halibut? Or a scrap of seaweed? Learn how to fish in a fun, hands-on program—all equipment provided!

Girls will have an opportunity to earn a special Hooked on Fishing patch by participating in this program event.  Girls will have a chance to:

· Learn about the variety of fish that frequent the surf zone and slightly deeper water surrounding the Ventura Pier.

· Try a variety of fishing methods, including fishing with small poles, large poles, and even hoop traps.

· Meet a diverse cast of characters, possibly to include crabs, croaker, sand sharks, perch, mackerel, jack smelt, leopard sharks, and more.

· Learn about equipment and bait used to fish, fishing license requirements, and other cool fishing tips and tricks.

All participants will take home their own Hooked on Fishing patch. No fishing license or equipment is required for participation in this event. This is a “catch and release”  program, meaning no fish will be coming home with participants!

Bring a refillable water bottle and a snack. Dress in layers and wear closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. You might also want to bring  binoculars, and a  camera if you have one (you never know what you might catch or see!). Please, no Tagalongs, and absolutely no pets.

Troop leader or adult chaperone is required to have all traveling forms for each participating girl. (Annual Permission Form, Health History, Permission for Medication, Permission to Release) Forms can be downloaded from the council website here Review specific event requirements in Safety Activity Checkpoints before taking any trip. All drivers should be registered Girl Scout Members, have completed a volunteer application and background check, have a valid CA driver’s license and hold current vehicle insurance.
